Frequently Asked Questions
Who Do you treat?
Individuals (children & adults), families (siblings & parents), and couples affected by or diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Anxiety, Sensory issues, challenging behaviors and other developmental concerns.
what Treatment Methods do you use?
We use a combination of behavioral therapy methods when working with children and families which are backed by years of research to be safe and effective. Depending on the patient's identified goals, these evidence-based treatment methods may include: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which can help increase your child's social, communication, and daily living skills while decreasing socially significant behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, self-injurious, and stereotypy. Along with ABA we may also introduce Incidental Teaching or Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Social Skills Training (SST), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI), Token Economy, or Discrete Trial Training (DTT). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is also an evidence-based practice which we use in our work with families. CBT is a form of short-term psychotherapy which allows a person to understand how their thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect their feelings and behaviors thus allowing them to face their fears and deal with situations that they were previously unable to deal with. They do this by developing a set of effective coping skills and techniques. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) uses mindfulness based strategies to encourage psychological flexibility thus helping a person commit to producing behaviors that are in align with living a valued life.
My Child is on a waitlist for ABA, can you help us now?
Yes! We can begin providing treatment while you wait for authorization or while you wait for a therapist to be identified who takes your insurance. Starting treatment early and keeping it consistent is a critical element of successfully treating autism. We are here to help you through the bumps in the road and prevent any lapse in treatment. We can work with any provider to transfer care when you're ready.
My child is currently receiving ABA but we would like more support, can you help?
Yes! Living with a child who has Autism or another behavior or developmental diagnosis can be extremely stressful. Getting support is often times critical in order to maintain the well-being of you and your family members. We can provide family counseling as well as family and sibling support groups.
MY CHILD DOES NOT HAVE AUTISM BUT IS DIFFICULT TO MANAGE, CAN YOU HELP?
Yes! We do not require a diagnosis to work with your child. Insurance companies required a diagnosis, however we are able to provide services and treatment without any type of diagnosis. We can help with sensory related issues, challenging behaviors, social skills, executive functioning skills and safety skills for your child while supporting the entire family.
MY CHILD IS STRUGGLING AT SCHOOL; CAN YOU HELP?
Yes! We provide school-based assessments, Behavior Support Plans and will collaborate with your child’s school to ensure they are receiving the necessary support to help them reach their fullest potential.
How long does treatment typically last?
It is our goal to ensure treatment is effective and quickly resolves the issues for which you started treatment. A typical course of treatment can range anywhere from 5-25 sessions. Treatment length is dependent on severity of symptoms and it is important to note that behavior and developmental disorders are often pervasive and life long, however that does not mean treatment should last forever but we encourage you to seek treatment at any point in which symptoms are affecting your or your child's daily life and well-being.
